Another letter from Willie

Dear Anne:

Paul and I are doing much better.  I got the letter that you moved.  We will look you up this fall when we are back in Buffalo.

Tell the kids we said hello.

Love, Willie

Moving

I hate moving.  We have moved so many times I have stuff still packed from 2 moves ago.  We are settling in to our new home here.  I can't say how nice it is to be "back home".

It really amazes me how kids adapt though.  My kids never missed a beat, they are going to their new school, playing with stuff they are finding outside to use as toys because their real toys are still packed away.  It's just amazing.

Me on the other hand..................

Oh, don't worry about Anne, she does well under any circumstance, but for a few days, you hit walls when you get up to pee because you have no idea where in the hell the bathroom light is or where the walls are: literally.

Even though 10 years ago I lived here, I have sort of forgotten the roads, sort of.  It's all coming back to me, but must be the old age.

Life is good.

Annie

My Hands

Well tomarrow is our auction.  After 12 years on our own, we have decided to sell the cows.  It has not been all bad, I guess I have learned alot.  Yesterday an old farmer stopped by to look at one of our tractors.  "Missy, your hands show alot of work, looks like you have put your heart and soul into this place".

These are the hands that signed the papers for loans to purchase cattle, machinery, seed, fertilizer.  These are the hands that have signed 7 birth certificates.  These are the hands that have signed one marriage license and one divorce decree.

These hands have milked hundreds of cows, washed hundreds of dishes and wiped hundreds of tears away from crying children.

These are the hands that have worked very hard.

These hands are the hands that had to sign the papers to have one of her best friends taken off life support.

These hands have been through some tough times and some good times.

Two weeks ago these hands signed the auction agreement with an auctioneer to sell the cows.

I am sitting here watching the sale tents go up, the auction will be tomarrow.  These hands will milk the cows tonight for the last time.

Annie

Happy Momma's Day!

I want to wish everyone out there a Happy Mother's Day!

I have 7 kids. Yes that is not a typo.  7.

I love all of them the same.

Some of them don't think I do, but I do.

Call your momma today, call someone else's momma today if yours is gone.  Call someone that is in the nursing home today.  Jam those damn phone lines.

Remember your girlfriend's momma who used to be "cool" or helpful.  Maybe even one who wasn't.  Just call them.

One ringy dingy. You know how it goes.

Just say "THANKS".

thats all

Just thanks.

Annie

whats your story?

Ok, so you think you are having a bad day and you meet this guy.  You start idle chit chat with him while you are bumming a cigarette.

"So, what's your story" I ask.

"Well, I milk cows, and oh yeah, in 2005 I had open heart surgery and my wife died the same year".

silence.

"Wow, I'm so sorry" I reply.

"That's ok." He replies.  I will see her someday.  He pulls out a cigarette and gives me one for later.

Wow.

Put things back in perspective for me : right quick.
